Let me start out by saying that every person on this earth is physically terminal. We are all headed for eternity and unless you receive the Jesus Christ who loves you enough to die for you., you may end up in Hell. We are not saying you will, that is between you and God. With that said, let me say that while we are on this earth I believe it is our duty to do our very best to treat our body as the temple God meant it to be. Nobody will do this perfectly and this is not meant to condemn anyone. But the body of Christ is hurting physically. The United States, along with many other prosperous countries are 81% overweight, 32% of those people fall into the obese category. The body of Christ falls right along side of the world when it comes to health issues. Sometimes we are worse. This is not a vanity issue or a social issue. Studies now show that these conditions can and do contribute to many diseases including Heart Disease, Strokes, Diabetes, Cancer, Arthritis, Lupus, Auto Immune Disorders, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and so many more. 

The terrible part of this is many of our churches in the Body don't even want to deal with the issue of health. We pray for our people (which is good!) and send them to Doctors. To many Pastors & leaders this whole issue is a loaded gun. How can we stand up and tell the people we are charged with to actually take care of themselves, get some exercise and get proper nutrition. We can't stand up and say that many of our members are gluttons and need to repent as we are serving donuts and high fat, high sugar muffins in our lobbies or fellowship halls, ignorantly contributing to the type II diabetes or other disease they could be developing. Our whole basis for fellowship is around food, especially desserts. I don't think that is what the Lord meant when He said, "Feed my sheep," My question to these Pastors and Leaders is this, "Do you care enough to say something about their health, about doing the right thing and preventing what they can?"  Obviously we care enough to ask them to receive Christ, do we care enough to try and keep them healthy while they serve... until He comes?

Please don't get us wrong. It's understood that spiritual matters are the priority as we are all in eternity now, eventually dropping these sinful bodies and heading to our real home. The fruit of the Spirit is definitely more important than the fruit not going in our mouths. But to ignore what is happening today is just not wise. The body of Christ is not physically healthy. And so much of it is preventable. The Lord God is sovereign. He answers prayer and heals... Instantly at times and at times slowly through health professionals. But sometimes He does not answer in the miraculous. So much of the time the illness we are carrying is simply the result of the choices we make. So many times the individual child of God doesn't believe they have the power to change. This is such a lie from the pit! Our God is awesome! Omnipotent, Omnipresent! He is right there beside you! It is not a power issue, it is a truth issue. Do you believe the truth that you can do whatever it is He asks of you? Choose this day who you will serve... and Serve Him with All of your Heart and Mind... with all of your Might!

The American Cancer Society just mailed out a piece that says, "Take control of your own health." Studies show that at least two-thirds of cancer deaths can be prevented by:

• Not using tobacco products
• Maintaining a healthy weight
• Getting plenty of physical activity
• Eating healthy foods
• Avoiding the midday sun and protecting skin with a hat, shirt and sunscreen.
